Natalia Kozieł-Kalliomäki is knee-deep and hands-full in a photo-sensitive film and expanded printmaking adventure. A Polish original living, working, creating, and having fun in Helsinki, she is heading for the moon.
The core of her expression has become the fusion of film and print, often oscillating between different scales — from large-format graphics to 16mm films, spatial projections, and live-cinema performances.
She explores the substance of print by using analogue optical machinery and the alchemy of film processes. She aims to uncover how traditional film projection can be reinvented to tell layered stories within static and moving images — where simple illusions become enigmatic and the impossible becomes present.
Her works often stand at the borderland of print, film, and theatre.
She is on a quest to find magic in the simplest mechanisms she encounters — film, print, and the humble fold of paper — to bring a sense of deep wonder and a smile, especially in these uncertain times.
