Over the last one and a half years, 18 Estonian artists visited border schools in Narva thanks to Narva Art Residency’s project “Artists Are Present”. Smart Future Foundation has provided its support so that the mission can continue. Nine new artists will be selected for the upcoming season in the autumn of 2026. The artists will come to Narva for a two-week period, and spend about a week in one local school. The application deadline is August 13. Each artist will receive a scholarship of €1,000.
Each artist will be in residence in the border town for two weeks and will meet with a group of students for five to six days to carry out creative activities, crafts, experiments, and discussions. In October and November, the selected artists will go to Narva Kreenholm School, Narva Language Lyceum, and Narva Orthodox Gymnasium.
Artists and participating teachers will be supported in preparatory training on language and subject integration, multilingualism and classroom communication. Support will be provided by Anneli Porri from the Estonian Academy of Arts, Hanna-Liis Kont, leader of the “Creative Connections” platform, Christina Lään, LAK trainer, and Anna Golubeva, head of the multilingual education department at University of Tartu Narva College.
More detailed information about the competition is available in the Estonian version.
