The Narva Venice Embassy 2025 artists-in-residence have been selected!

Narva Art Residency has announced the artists selected for the fourth season of Narva Venice Embassy. The summer residency project will include four artists-in-residence, each in Narva for three weeks. The first two artists will arrive in late June and the second set in mid-July. Over the course of one and a half months, they will create diverse and immersive projects that engage with local communities and environments.

The artists were selected by a jury of experts, including Maria Kapajeva, an internationally acknowledged contemporary artist with roots in Narva; Elizabeth Guerrero (MX/NL), Narva Venice Embassy resident in 2022; Vladislav “Slava” Simenok, representing the Kulgu community; Johanna Rannula, the head of Narva Art Residency, and Saara Mildeberg, coordinator of the Narva Venice Embassy project in 2025.

The selected artists are:

Marilyne Grimmer, a French visual artist and scenographer based in Brussels. In Narva, she will collect the local community’s thoughts, memories and feelings about the place, and create a collaborative souvenir shop out of them.

Aleksandra Ianchenko, a visual artist, researcher and curator, who follows the ideas of estrangement to introduce the strange into the mundane. In Narva, she is going to explore the garage areas in Kulgu using sketching as an artistic and ethnographic tool.

Hildegard Reimann, a cultural reseracher and artist from Tartu, from Estonia, who loves playful approaches to everyday life and work. In Narva, she will befriend the local flora and fauna and create space for noticing, learning, and sharing stories about the more-than-human space.

Javier Mars, an Amsterdam-based artist originally from Spain, who works with objects and folklore. In Narva, Javier will create a performative walkscape using musical artefacts and site-specific installations produced from found objects.

The detailed descriptions of the artists and their projects are available on the NART website: https://www.nart.ee/en/artists/
