In June and July, Mexican artist Violeta Ortega-Navarrete held a residency in Narva. She took part in the local Narva Artist Day program and presented her installation at the Kreenholm manufactory.
The artwork, “Organic Network”, was made from wool yarn sourced from second-hand shops in Narva. The threads hung and intertwined, referencing non-human organic forms such as animal cocoons and nests.
Violeta also visited Merje Niidu, an artist and teacher at the Kiviõli Art School, where she learned about various symbols found in Estonian folklore and practiced weaving the traditional Estonian woven belt.
