On the second weekend of May, as spring was just starting to unfold, a group of artists whose practices engage with nature and borders gathered at the Narva Art Residency. The aim of the meeting was to share their work and to form new symbioses — weaving connections like a mycelial network. The event was curated by Riina Õun and formed part of the Copenhagen-based Metropolis residency programme Performing Landscapes Nordic/Baltic Network.

Saturday took participants on a journey through “Narva Venice” and into the atmosphere of the 9th May Europe Day celebrations in the city centre. The highlight of the day was the welcoming of 7,000 new female workers to the Kreenholm Manufactory, where they began their work with dedication. More precisely, this marked the creation of a living monument — two beehives installed on the Kreenholm grounds, now home to thousands of bees moving freely across visible and invisible borders.

The second day unfolded through artist presentations, touching on themes of biodesign, interspecies collaboration, ancient mythology, community-based practices, and food rescue. A boat tour along the canals of Narva Venice added a moment of transition to the day. The series of inspiring presentations concluded with a collective embroidery session, tying the day together through thread and shared making.

Thank you to all participants — until the next encounters on new horizons.
