Languages of Care is a collaborative exhibition that brings together three Estonian artists — Helena Atkin, Daria Titova, and Liisbet Horn — and students from three schools in Narva and Narva-Jõesuu: Narva Vanalinna Põhikool, Kreenholmi Kool, and Narva-Jõesuu Kool.
The project began with a series of workshops in April 2025, where the artists invited students to explore new forms of expression through sound, textiles, and performance.
- Helena Atkin challenged students to experience sound beyond music and discover new ways of thinking and feeling.
- Daria Titova guided students through the tactile world of textile art, using embroidery and sewing as tools for language learning and self-expression.
- Liisbet Horn encouraged critical dialogue and creative action through performative exercises focused on identity, society, and integration.
The exhibition transforms familiar objects — such as the everyday dining table — into playgrounds for meaning, imagination, and storytelling. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in a world where the boundaries between reality and fantasy blur, and where familiar spaces take on new rhythms, textures, and resonances.
Languages of Care highlights the importance of creativity, empathy, and communication across generations and cultures. It is part of the wider project “The Artist Is Present,” supported by the British Council, which seeks to make contemporary art more accessible in Narva and Narva-Jõesuu and to support the transition to Estonian-language education in local schools.
