Narva Venice Annuale: Dugout Boats Day, boat rides

Location: Remmelga tee 8, see the map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/fb5Fc94aUQ1z7bg56

In 2025, Narva holds the title of Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture. To mark the end of the season, Narva Art Residency’s summer project Narva Venice Embassy will host a special day dedicated to the ancient Finno-Ugric craft of dugout boats, which is recognised by UNESCO in its list of Intangible Cultural Heritage .
Dugout boat masters Jaan Keerdo and Põvvat Kama will demonstrate the art of making ‘haabjas’ by sharing their knowledge and skills of building dugout boats. A photo exhibition will showcase various types of dugout boats from across Estonia, and visitors will have the opportunity to learn some skills under the masters’ guidance on a boat-in-process. Those eager for adventure can take a ride through the Kulgu canals in both traditional dugout boats or on a motor boat. Meanwhile, those on land can explore works created by the artists who undertook residencies at the Embassy throughout the summer.

In the middle of Dugout Boats Day, Station Narva’s city stage will appear in Narva Venice, featuring the distinctive Latvian artist, composer, and trumpet player German Superfin.
Both the city stage concert and Dugout Boats Day activities are free of charge.

Program:
12:00–13:00 Working on an unfinished dugout under the guidance of masters
13:00–14:30 Dugout construction lecture-seminar
15:00–15:30 German Superfin (LV) on Station Narva city stage

Nearby, the Estonian Green Movement tent is open, hosting a public recording and discussion of Kuku Radio’s “Ilmaparandaja”. In the afternoon, from 16:00–18:00, DJ Kertu Laherand will create a musical atmosphere.
