Opening of the exhibition: “The House at Joala 18” ⎜ Narva Art School

On January 24 at 15.30, NART hosts the opening of the new exhibition “House at Joala 18”, featuring a selection of plein air and diploma works by students of the Narva Art School from the 1990s to the summer of 2025. The exhibition spans almost the entire history of the school and brings together several generations of students.

The centerpiece of the exhibition is the director’s villa at Joala 18, which has housed the Narva Art Residency since 2015. Built in 1893 by to the designs of architect Pavel Alish, this house has witnessed historic events in the city and remains a constant source of inspiration for artists.

The architectural details of the neo-Gothic façade, a landscape with old larch against a backdrop of brickwork, and ornamental patterns set the tone for the entire exhibition. Two graduation works take a special place, as in those works the villa becomes a symbol of Narva’s history and culture. The paintings and drawings are executed in a variety of techniques, from quick plein air sketches to meticulously crafted graduation compositions. The exhibition allows us to trace the development of the students’ artistic thinking and their personal perception of this iconic landmark.

The exhibition presents works by 32 authors:
