In autumn 2025, NART will host three free trainings organized by the “Creative Connections” (“Kunst loob lähedust”) educational platform for teachers from schools, kindergartens, and clubs in Ida-Viru County, as well as for youth workers and social pedagogues—professionals who work with children and young people on a daily basis.
What is “Creative Connections”?
The educational platform “Creative Connections” combines knowledge from the fields of art and social work to develop the social and emotional competence of children and adults. It offers art-based educational activities that encourage self-expression and interpersonal communication. The platform was launched with the support of Tartu 2024 – European Capital of Culture. 23 October 2025, 13.00–15.15 Colouring and art therapy training (training is fully booked)
Conducted by: artist Jarõna Ilo
Location: NART (Joala 18, Narva)
Target group: teachers in Ida-Viru County
Duration: 3 academic hours
Language: Estonian, translation into Russian if needed
Participation: free, with pre-registration (registration closed)
The artist Jarõna Ilo shares her experience in colour therapy workshops. Through a hands-on activity, Jarõna will demonstrate how to mix all of the other colours from the three primary colours. The focus will be on the relationship between colours and emotions and how mixing colours affects children emotionally. An art therapy workshop based on the teaching of colours will allow children to understand and express their feelings. Feelings and colours meet on a subconscious level and participants learn more about themselves in the process.

JARÕNA ILO is an Estonian artist of Ukrainian origin. Since 2017 she has conducted art therapy workshops in Ukraine, which have primarily benefited children, but also teachers and school psychologists. In 2022, workshops led by Ilo were held in Estonia for young people from Ukraine. The aim of the art therapy activities was to support students’ adaptation, mental health and better contacts with teachers. Ilo has also taught drawing at the Estonian Academy of Arts, the Old Town Education College, the Viljandi Culture Academy and the Australian National University in Canberra.
7 November 2025, 13.00–17.00 Training on supporting the projects initiated by children and young people
Conducted by: design educator and researcher Eva Liisa Kubinyi and art curator Hanna-Liis Kont
Location: NART (Joala 18, Narva)
Target group: youth workers, art teachers, and artists working with children and young people in Ida-Viru County
Duration: 5 academic hours
Language: Estonian, translation into Russian if needed
Participation: free, with pre-registration
During the workshop day, participants will learn to visually plan how to inspire children and young people in generating ideas and how to supportively guide children and young people (and yourself) in implementing these ideas. Whether you are a teacher, an artist, or a parent, the process will help you to think through potential challenges in a simplified way and how to approach them creatively. Participants will be able to start designing their own collaborative process.
