Triinu Jürves | “Artists Are Present” (estonia)
12.10 – 25.10.2026
Triinu Jürves is a freelance artist and art educator based in Tallinn. With a background in painting, Jürves is an interdisciplinary artist working with collage, objects, and installations that can be described as coded poetic personal and social commentaries. She has previously worked primarily as part of the art collective –> Noolegrupp (together with Villem Jahu). Their projects have mostly taken the form of large-scale installations or performative environments and objects, often interactive, site-specific, and engaging with public space. Currently, she exhibits both as a solo artist and in collaboration with other artists and groups.
Jürves is also an experienced art educator; while she is well-versed in classical representational techniques, her particular strength lies in explaining and disseminating contemporary art principles in accessible language. She views teaching as well as creating alongside students and the public as an integral part of her artistic practice.
She is one of the coordinators of the self-initiated galleries Metropol 6m2 and Metropol Kapp in Tallinn and has curated and designed various exhibition projects in a broader context.
Triinu Jürves is aims to take a journey with Narva students to explore today’s art forms (installation, objects, sound, performance art, text etc.) through practical exercises. Together, they will try to find and feel the conceptual space of contemporary art, where you can make visible what exists but is too big, small, ordinary, or vague to notice. Each meeting is a mix of discussion, examples, and exercises, where students can participate in choices and express themselves. We’ll use ourselves, each other, the surrounding space and time, objects, phones, and different materials and tools. By the end of the week, a picture of possibilities might emerge, helping to start piecing together the whole and creating meaning.
