Mia Tamme | “Kunstnikud on kohal” (Estonia)
20.04 – 03.05.2026
Bio
Mia Tamme is an artist, writer, community organiser, storyteller, filmmaker, and sailor based in Tallinn, Estonia. Their artistic practice is a queer continuation of Finno-Baltic heritage traditions, such as weaving, fishing, and singing. Mia intertwines theory and practice for embodied research into traditional arts, exploring their underlying connections to gender, identity, and the nation-state. Through her creative non-fiction writing and performances, she critically examines ethnography and archival practices, seeking ways of thinking through decolonial theory in the context of the Baltic region.
Project
Together with students, I explore the textile history and the double-cultured setting of Narva. We will start by telling stories and listening to tales woven into fabrics, and conclude by making a flag. We will consider the meaning of flags and how they can be used to redefine our identities.
